Dodgers 5–4 Pirates: Edman delivers, but Pages injury hurts
Tommy Edman’s walk-off single in the 10th inning lifted the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 5–4 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night, giving them their fourth consecutive win.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto delivered another strong outing, allowing two runs on five hits over 6⅓ innings while striking out nine and walking one. Max Muncy hit a two-run homer in the first inning, and Mookie Betts added a two-run single in the third as the Dodgers built a 4–2 lead.
The Pirates tied the game in the eighth when Oneil Cruz hit a two-run homer off Kyle Hurt. In the 10th, Evan Phillips escaped a bases-loaded, one-out jam by inducing Henry Davis to ground into a 6-4-3 double play.
That set the stage for Edman. With two outs, Kiké Hernández on third and Kyle Tucker on first, Edman lined a walk-off single against Gregory Soto to end the 200-minute game.
“I think our guys are kind of reinterested, you know, collectively,” manager Dave Roberts said before the game. The Dodgers have now won four straight after going 5–11 during their recent slump.

The biggest concern, however, was Andy Pages. The outfielder was hit on the back of his left hand by a 100-mph Bubba Chandler pitch in the third inning and suffered a fracture. Roberts said Pages is expected to miss roughly four to five weeks, although it remains unclear whether he will require surgery.
“It’s not season-ending,” Roberts said. “I would expect him back, knowing him, on the earlier side.”
Roberts said Edman is one option to replace Pages in center field.
There was also encouraging news on the injury front. Will Smith faced live pitching for the first time since June, and Roberts said the catcher could return during the first week of September. Tyler Glasnow is also nearing a return and could be activated during the Dodgers’ upcoming series in Atlanta.
Shohei Ohtani is expected to pitch again this season after another bullpen session, with Roberts saying he will likely face live hitters before returning to the mound.

Dalton Rushing is pain-free and approaching live pitching, though Roberts said he is unlikely to return as a catcher this season. A potential return as a designated hitter remains possible.
The Dodgers improved to 78–51 with the win and will look to make it five straight when Tarik Skubal starts Saturday.
