Arsenal Fall 3-2 to Dortmund in Emirates Cup Final Despite Late Fightback

Arsenal suffered a 3-2 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the Emirates Cup final on Sunday afternoon, despite a spirited second-half comeback.
Dortmund took an early lead through Samuele Inacio before Konstantinos Karetsas doubled their advantage before half-time. Arsenal responded after the break, with Ethan Nwaneri pulling one back following an assist from Christos Tzolis.
Joane Gadou restored Dortmund’s two-goal cushion, but Viktor Gyokeres converted from the penalty spot to make it 3-2 and set up a tense finish.
Arsenal pushed for an equaliser late on, with Gabriel Martinelli finding the net, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Dortmund Strike Early
Arsenal created an early opportunity from a corner, but Alexander Meyer produced a good save to deny Filippo Mane’s inadvertent effort.
Dortmund then broke the deadlock in the seventh minute. Felix Nmecha released Inacio through on goal, and the forward calmly finished into the bottom-left corner.
Arsenal continued to threaten, with Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz and Gyokeres combining well. Gyokeres came closest when his powerful effort crashed against the crossbar.
Against the run of play, Dortmund doubled their lead shortly before the half-hour mark. Karetsas cut inside from the right before curling a superb effort into the top-left corner.
Odegaard was withdrawn in the 32nd minute as planned after recently returning from the FIFA World Cup, with Nwaneri taking his place.

Arsenal Fight Back
Arsenal made a goalkeeper change at half-time, with Illan Meslier replacing Kepa.
The Gunners finally found a breakthrough in the 54th minute. Tzolis delivered from the left and Nwaneri finished to reduce the deficit to 2-1.
Dortmund responded quickly, however, as Gadou scored following a scramble inside the Arsenal penalty area to restore their two-goal advantage.
Arsenal refused to give up. Tzolis continued to cause problems and later won a penalty after being fouled inside the box.
Gyokeres stepped up in the 69th minute and confidently converted into the bottom-right corner to make it 3-2.
Despite late pressure, Arsenal could not find a third goal. Martinelli appeared to have equalised after combining with Gabriel Jesus, but the effort was ruled out for offside.

Arsenal Win Post-Match Shootout
Although Dortmund won the final 3-2, both teams had agreed beforehand to take part in a penalty shootout for additional practice.
After a series of successful penalties, Arsenal ultimately won the shootout 5-4, with Ethan Nwaneri converting the decisive spot-kick.
The defeat means Arsenal miss out on the Emirates Cup trophy, but the match provided valuable minutes and preparation ahead of the new season.
