Play of 108th PGA Championship underway at Aronimink..

                                                             

     

It was actually Garrick Higgo — not Rickie (or “Ick”) Higgo — who was penalized at the 2026 PGA Championship for arriving late to his opening-round tee time.

Tournament officials assessed Higgo a two-stroke penalty after he failed to be inside the designated starting area by his 7:18 a.m. tee time at Aronimink Golf Club. He reportedly arrived about one minute late, which triggered Rule 5.3a. Because he was still within the five-minute grace period, he avoided disqualification.

                                                             

The penalty effectively gave Higgo a double bogey on the opening hole, but he recovered impressively and still shot a 1-under 69 in the first round.

The 108th edition of the PGA Championship is officially underway at Aronimink Golf Club, with Round 1 beginning Thursday morning in suburban Philadelphia.

Defending champion Scottie Scheffler headlines the field, while Rory McIlroy arrives looking to add another major title after winning the Masters earlier this season. Other featured contenders include Jon Rahm, Jordan Spieth, and Bryson DeChambeau.

The championship is being played May 14–17 at the historic Donald Ross-designed course, which is hosting the PGA Championship for the first time since 1962. Aronimink is set up as a par-70 measuring roughly 7,394 yards, with thick rough and demanding greens already testing players early in the opening round.

                                                                                

Early first-round storylines included South Africa’s Aldrich Potgieter posting a 67, while Garrick Higgo was assessed a two-stroke penalty for arriving late to his tee time but still managed an under-par round.
